James City County’s Social Services Department seeks an individual to perform responsible work providing customer service and support, ensuring integrity of various systems, maintaining and monitoring computer applications, networks and related security and inventory, and providing support in process development.

Responsibilities:

· Serves as network administrator for Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) software and James City County's (JCC) Local Area Network (LAN); assures network and its applications are available to users; resolves user problems as required; responds to a variety of inquiries related to LAN operation and computer programs; takes corrective action as necessary including problem analysis and coordinating repairs with either JCC Information Technology (IT) or VDSS and Virginia Department of Information Technology.

· Provides technical support for JCC's LAN; provides end user support, troubleshooting and training for personal computer-based software; acts as first point of contact for repair services with JCC Information Technology.

· Serves as Security Officer for VDSS software; maintains training records, processes necessary forms for addition/removal of staff, creates accounts and grants access to staff for various computer programs; monitors access to assure compliance with VDSS security standards. Resets passwords to all VDSS systems as needed.

· Manages all computer and related equipment, including printers, laptops, projectors, IPads, fax machines, remote access devices and wireless connectivity devices; maintains Special Needs list. Provides technical support for all desktop and cell phones. Troubleshoot issues, work with Telecommunications to repair/replace phones as needed, coordinate moves of phones and orders new phones.

· Serves as administrator of Social Services pages published on JCC intranet; updates information, creates forms and pages and publishes new information on a regular basis; Department representative on the County Social Media Committee. Attend meetings, coordinate information and post to County’s Facebook and Twitter pages regularly.

· Provides primary or backup support for claims with Virginia Department of Taxation, Virginia State Police Criminal History Searches, Electronic Benefit Transfer cards and Accurint.

Requirements:

· Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, supplemented by training in the operation of peripheral equipment, microcomputers, and local area networks.

· Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).

· Thorough knowledge of data processing operations, microcomputers, mainframe computer hardware configurations, and network monitoring software packages.

· Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; operation of peripheral equipment, microcomputers, and local area networks; Microsoft Windows Desktop OS and Microsoft Office Suite; and, web development software.

· Skill in use of computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to analyze and diagnose routine computer operations problems such as those encountered in the operation of the LAN; maintain clear and concise problem logs; and, quickly learn required software packages.
